Stomaphyx
™
StomaphyX™ is an incisionless surgery to aid in the treatment of weight loss. The StomaphyX™ procedure is a surgical method of fastening tissue and modifying or reshaping the gastrointestinal tract without incisions. The StomaphyX™ procedure is usually requested by previous gastric bypass patients who have gained some or all of their weight back because of changes in their pouch.
StomaphyX™ is performed under visualization of an endoscope. Tissue from the stomach is suctioned into a port creating a tissue placation similar to a pleat. Fasteners are then placed through the plication to hold the tissue fold in place. Multiple pleats are constructed. Over a few weeks following the procedure the tissue of the plication will fuse making it strong and stable. Fusion of the plications can take several weeks and is critical to the long term success of the procedure.

StomaphyX™ is performed under general anesthesia in
the operating room. Patients are generally discharged the same day and are able
to return to work within a few days. Food and exercise restrictions are in place
for a few weeks after the procedure.
EndoGastric Solutions received FDA approval for their device, StomaphyX™ in 2007. StomaphyX™ is also indicated for the treatment of GERD.
Dr. Jeffrey Rosen said, "Hundreds of StomaphyX™
procedures are now being performed successfully worldwide, and it is with great
excitement that we bring it now to the Chicago area."
